News Michelle Kelly aged 31 from Manchester, failed her driving test recently after splashing a pedestrain by driving through a puddle. The mother-of-two protested that if she had swerved to avoid the puddle she might have caused an accident. She was told by the examiner that her actions constituted a traffic offence, it was also reported in the news that the DSA shared this veiw. We should all remember that as safe drivers we have a responsibility to show consideration for other road users. The Road Traffic Act contains an offence of "careless, and inconsiderate, driving" which includes driving through a puddle causing pedestrians to be splashed. The penalty for this offence includes a fine of up to £2500 so be warned! By driving at a speed to match the road and weather conditions, looking well ahead and recognising hazards in good time you should be able to aviod the problem experienced by Michelle.
